It took 20 some years for Korean government to realize and reclaim Jindo's lost heritage.

It took almost 40 years before Jindos were ready to be introduced to the Western World.  It was only through a respected breeder in the UK, Meg Purnell-Carpenter at the Overhill Kennel whom Korean government trusted, to make that happen.

It took 3 years for me to bring Jindos to the US and AKC to accept Jindos into its Foundation Stock Services Program.

Jindo is part of Korean history and once again it proved that the history doesn't happen over night.  What we must do now is not to repeat the tragic history of loosing the country which resulted loosing the language, culture, history and most of all its identity.  Today, Jindo is one part of lost history Koreans restored and treasure.  Introducing this remarkable dog to the US is very important.  Backyard Jindo breeder should realize the fact that Jindos that aren't from the Jindo Research Institute are not true pure breed the Korean government supports and the qualities and reputation of some of their Jindos are hurting the future of Jindos in the US.  We must stop irresponsible breeding of Jindos in order to re-establish this magnificent dog we treasure as our national monument.  Through reclaiming Jindo heritage, Korean history is revived from its the painful past.  Jindos reputation must echo our pride.

Despite of its rarity to outside of Korea, there are surprisingly large number of Jindos living in the US today.  Mainly concentrated in the West Coast due to increse in recent Korean immigration,  some Jindos moved with their owners to the US and been bred without any rules and regulations to conform the AKC standard.  It is much to my amaze, no one had taken the first step to get Jindos to enroll into the AKC until today.  Without having AKC's recognition, Jindos were spreading though out the nation.  It is to my knowledge that there are over 10,000 Jindos here in the US today but none with Jindo Institute Pedigree and the number is growing.  With no reputable organization to regulate the breed standard, most of Jindos that you see here today are not true and pure Jindos.  Even the very few that are in the US today with exceptional Jindo qualities do not have pedigree that will conform with our AKC standard.  Only Jindos to have pure bred pedigree are the ones Jindo Research Institute certified and once certified, they can't leave the Jindo Island.  Therefore, any Jindos that is sold to the main land is consider not meeting qualities of Jindo Institute.  Many are happily living with families but many more are killed everyday at animal shelters all over the US.  Shelters and families in the US are unsure of what Jindo is when they see one which results Jindos to be killed without a second chance.

It is now apparent that AKC is on board to change future of the Jindos here in the US and tresuredK9 is committed to make difference in current Jindo situation.  I am highly encouraging you to visit tresuredK9 and consider adopting Jindo that may be lost, abused, unwanted by its previous owners.  Jindos are no different then any other dogs that we see.  Just as children are the products of their parents, dogs are products of their owners.  Jindos are known to be loyal, smart and docile animals for thousands of years.  We often relate dogs to man's best friend but Jindos are man's best sole mate.  Intelligent enough to make own decisions man could rely on.

If anyone has question regarding how to adopt a Jindo, please contact us or tresuredK9 directly.

If you'd like to experience Jindos today, you could offer your wonderful family to be a foster home.  I must warn you that most of foster families ended up adopting Jindos and waiting for the next one to be available.
